Кроме того, выдерживаемое напряжение грозового импульса с суммой двух напряжений может быть приложено к одному из выводов при заземлении другого вывода.
Английская аббревиатура BIL (Basic insulating Level) (Основной уровень прочности изоляции), применявшаяся ранее, обозначает то же самое, что и термин LIWL.
Термин « номинальный полный импульс» ( Rated Full Wave), часто применявшийся в прежних стандартах США (ANSI/IEEE), обозначает то же самое, что и уровень выдерживаемого напряжения грозового разряда ( LIWL).
